I talk to activists on the frontlines, people behind bars, and those wronged by the system who have a story to tell. These people are not voiceless, they just need somebody to listen. I conduct research to validate their experiences. My goal is to humanize them through practices of storytelling.

I have a PHD in Cultural Studies from Claremont and published two books on Black cultural production in the 1930s. My work draws heavily from archives to reconstruct radical moments in time.

I apply the research and archival skills I gained as academic to investigate oppressive institutions. I practice what I call “abolition journalism” — writing stories about those working to dismantle the US prison system and stop ICE.

Subjects I have written about:

• Inside-outside prison organizing

• Women’s prisons

• Immigrant solidarty networks

• Displacement of unhoused people

• Police surveillance

• Campus activism
